Deep Blue Expands Their Musical Horizons

Deep Blue Bar & Grill has already earned a much deserved reputation for fine dining in Wilmington. Now, they, have expanded their live music calendar.... Entertainment Coordinator, Jeremiah Charles¹ eclectic taste in music is reflected in his line-up of Thursday and Saturday shows in October and November that are bursting with commendable choices.

On Saturday, October 9th, Jazz vocalist, Ellen Lebowitz, brought her swinging grace to the bar area with her highly competent band. The bar and cafe style seating area were packed to see this diminutive, yet tenderly powerful, Jazz stylist perform. There was a consistency that was unmistakable; this band clicks with the same smooth style as Lebowitz¹s impeccable vocals, creating a cozy, club-like atmosphere in the cool Deep Blue Space. Her renditions of classic Jazz standards shine with flawless intonation and stunning phrasing. Her band is every bit as adept. Her husband, Tom Palmer, on keyboard, provided an elegant backdrop to his wife's beautiful renditions of a wide range of Jazz that would test the musicianship of a lesser vocalist. Lebowitz¹s guitarist, Bob Cocchi, was equally impressive, with solo guitar work that clearly demonstrated his undeniable mastery of the instrument. But he had even more to contribute to this swinging Jazz combo. Cocchi outfitted his Strat with a Roland synthesizer, transforming his guitar into a highly credible trumpet that had the crowd repeatedly looking around for the trumpet player, in disbelief! Ellen Lebowitz has her first CD out that is co-produced by Cocchi. The liner notes are glowingly written by Harvey Price, Assistant Professor of Music at University of Delaware. The CD is available at Barnes and Noble and Rainbow Records. Meanwhile, keep your eye on Deep Blue¹s Live Music Calendar. You never know what might surface.
